Electoral Reform
Where I Stand
Our political system is corrupt. This isn’t just an issue on the federal level, it’s a huge reason why we have what we have in Nevada that rewards corporations and not working people. For us to be able to pass much needed legislation to deliver real change to struggling Nevadans, we have to get corporations to stop buying our elections and our politicians. We need a government that is responsive to people and represented by the people.
What I’ll Do
Ban corporate PAC contributions to any state held office.
Reform our legislature to meet every year instead of every two years
Also pay legislatures enough and pay for paid staff positions
Provide campaign matching mechanism for state elections up to a certain amount and limit campaign contributions.
Why It Matters
Money in politics allows corporations to continue to write the rules of our government and continue to drive up prices and increase the gap of wealth between us and them. Our politicians are more concerned with spending time at bougie fundraisers to raise money for their campaigns instead of time working on improving the lives of Nevadans. Our legislature as is incredibly out of reach for regular hardworking people to run for office. The current salary and support for our state legislatures do not provide a living wage. This only encourage people with wealth and the privledge to actually hold these positions. We need to make elections and running for office more accessible to people that want to make a difference.
