Where I Stand
I am 100% against companies like a New-York based hedge fund owning over 3,000 homes in the Las Vegas Valley (The LVRJ) and pushing up housing prices. If real life was like a game of Monopoly, the only thing we could land on without going bankrupt is jail. The only people who should be going to jail are the ones manipulating these markets in the first place, and I won’t stand by while big corporations are robbing you of your ability to afford to live.
Similar to the housing market, big retail chains have been able to push out the competition and drive up prices. I believe in giving Nevadans every tool they need to afford to live here. We can’t do that if we don’t hold big corporations accountable for their conduct.
What I’ll Do
I will propose legislation that bars or prevents big corporations from hoarding single-family homes.
We will also invest and work together with state and local government to invest in and incentivize building new, affordable housing to finally reduce the cost of housing for Nevadans.
Increase funding for regulatory agencies that investigate corporate misconduct and strengthen antitrust laws and enforcement
Require and enhance transparency laws of big corporations to highlight potential price inflation schemes
Why It Matters
Huge corporations hide behind anonymous companies to hide their illegal activity and try to avoid regulations put in place to protect us. Companies are able to drive out competition and then are able to drive up the cost for us. More transparency allows us a better chance to see the problem and fix the problem. All of this helps keep business honest and create more opportunities to drive down costs.
