Protecting Social Security
Where I Stand
I know firsthand how important Social Security was for my grandparents’ very survival. Without it, many of our elderly would be homeless and hungry. It’s been one of the most successful public programs our country has ever had. I will do whatever it takes to ensure we all have access to Social Security and prevent the rich from stealing what we all earn and pay into.
And not only can we protect social security, we can expand benefits! We also know the long lines at Social Security Offices, lengthy and fickle application processes, and long wait-times can be frustrating. That’s why I’m for improving not only Social Security benefits but the whole system to give Americans the customer service they deserve too!
What I’ll Do
I would propose legislation that would lift the payroll tax maximum, which would allow for Social Security to support the financial stability for generations to come. I would do anything possible to prevent any cuts from self serving-Republicans.
Why It Matters
My grandpa used to say things like, “Save that quarter or you might end up in the poor house.” That never resonated, until one day I googled “Poor houses.” Before Social Security, many poor and disabled people were put into gruesome homes and environments that some would describe as a “prison farm”. We can’t afford to go back to that.
Social Security is on the chopping block because Donald Trump and Republicans. These sorts of things have long been eyed by Republicans and private enterprise to PROFIT off a social service that many of you have already paid into your entire lives. It has been one of the most successful social welfare systems in American history and CRITICAL for American Seniors.
Donald Trump has already severely tampered with the Social Security Administration and threatens its future. Democrats must strongly use all available legislative, legal, and political avenues to ensure Social Security remains strong.
